AI Kitchen Design From a Photo: Remodel Ideas
By Roomlyo
Updated:
Upload a clear kitchen photo, select Kitchen and a style, and describe the finishes you want to explore. Roomlyo creates an AI design concept for comparing ideas; it does not produce cabinet measurements or a contractor estimate.
A kitchen remodel starts with decisions that are hard to undo: cabinet fronts, countertops, backsplash and lighting. An AI kitchen design from your own photo can help narrow the visual direction before you order samples. Start with one question, such as whether warm wood works better than painted cabinets in your light. Keep the same photo for each comparison so a different camera angle does not make one option seem better.
Choose a finish refresh or a bigger remodel
For a finish refresh, write down the elements that stay: the run of cabinets, sink, range, refrigerator, floor and windows. Ask for a change to the palette instead of a larger kitchen. Roomlyo proposes a complete visual concept, including new fittings, so it cannot lock each cabinet or edit only a selected surface. Check the result against the original.
For a larger remodel, use the image to explain the atmosphere you want to a kitchen designer or contractor. A picture of a new island does not establish that there is room for it. Measure the space in feet and inches, including door swings and appliance openings, before deciding on a layout.
Compare cabinets, countertops and backsplash together
Choose two combinations with a meaningful difference: warm white cabinets with a quiet countertop, or wood fronts with a lighter backsplash. Keep handles and lighting similar for the first comparison. Otherwise you may prefer the second image because of the pendants rather than the cabinet finish.
A small kitchen needs a readable work area. If a generated image removes the refrigerator, shortens the counter or hides the dishwasher, reject that option. Use the chosen palette to collect real samples. Look at them beside the floor in daylight and under your evening lighting; a generated color is not an exact paint or stone match.
Turn the concept into a useful project brief
Save three decisions from the preview: cabinet tone, countertop character and the amount of contrast. Add a separate list of what stays in place. Bring the original photo, the concept and your measurements to a professional, so the discussion distinguishes visual preferences from work that must be priced.
Roomlyo does not identify products or calculate a remodel budget. Build the shopping and labor estimate separately using actual product specifications. Compare a finish refresh with replacement cabinetry before committing to the more involved option.
How to prepare your photo
- Take a level photo showing the full cabinet run, floor, appliances and backsplash. Clear small items from counters without hiding existing features.
- Use daylight where possible and avoid panorama mode. If the kitchen opens into the living area, include their connection or use the open-space workflow.
- Sign in, upload JPG, PNG or WebP up to 10 MB, choose Kitchen and the matching empty or furnished mode. Select a style and add instructions of up to 800 characters.
Example instructions for the generator
Adapt this brief to your own space. Also select the style and room type in the generator settings.
Create a warm contemporary kitchen concept. Keep the existing kitchen footprint, window, door, sink and appliance positions. Explore warm white cabinet fronts, light stone-look countertops, a simple cream backsplash and restrained brass details. Keep the current floor and a clear work area. Do not add an island, remove appliances or enlarge the room. Show a visual direction rather than a construction plan.
Common questions
Can I try AI kitchen design for free?
A new Roomlyo account includes one credit for a free concept. Further generations require credits or an active Studio plan. Check Pricing for current options.
Can AI keep my exact cabinets and change only the color?
Roomlyo creates a new design concept and may change cabinet details. It is useful for exploring a palette, but it is not a precise cabinet recoloring or product specification tool.
What to check in the visualization
- Count the appliances and compare their locations with the source photo.
- Check whether drawers, the dishwasher and the refrigerator could open; verify actual clearances with measurements.
- Compare sample finishes in your own light before buying. Do not order cabinetry from dimensions inferred from the image.
From visualization to a real room
The preview does not verify plumbing, electrical work, ventilation or construction feasibility. Final plans and installation details need a separate professional check.
